Oprah Son
Oprah named herself after her heroine Oprah Winfrey, the American celebrity who was once hailed as “the most influential woman in the world” by the media.
Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Oprah graduated from Korea University majoring in Physics. She was qualified as a US CPA, and worked for Samsung and KPMG. She also spent several years living in Vancouver, Canada. In 2016, she moved to Hong Kong and started working for a firm that specializes in accounting and consulting.
In 2013, Oprah was encouraged to take up golf by her mother, who has been an enthusiast of the game for more than 20 years. Today, Oprah hones her skills at the South China Athletic Association driving range at least three times a week, as her goal is to win the big tournaments organized by Hong Kong Prime Golf Society. She believes playing golf is a great way to improve her EQ and mental toughness. Managing anger and happiness and despair and excitement on the course, and slogging through 18 holes in hot and humid weather – all of that is good training for the mind. Oprah marks her balls with a capital “S”, which represents her Korean family name “Son” and reflects her desire to hit “super” shots. Oprah particularly enjoys playing on courses with an ocean view.
Oprah’s love for the game prompted her to become an official communicator of the Korean Professional Golfers’ Association (KPGA) in March 2016. She followed the players during tournament rounds, interviewed them, and shared cool photos and videos of them with fans through social media in order to attract more fans to come out and watch golf in real time. This work experience greatly enhanced her understand of the game.
Oprah is also a gifted cellist. Playing golf with her family and playing the cello at church are her favorite things to do.
